There are a variety of resources available to our community, from food assistance and emergency shelters to immigration and legal services. Many of these programs are supported by local towns, Massachusetts state support, and federal programs.

SNAP can help you expand your healthy food budget through monthly funds on an EBT card to buy food. Connections to other kinds of help, like utility discounts, free school meals, and more.
WIC is a nutrition program that provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and other services, free of charge, to Massachusetts families who qualify.

Self Help, Inc. is a nonprofit Community Action Agency (CAA) created to help families and individuals stabilize and secure their lives through education, strategic assistance, and building on opportunities in their communities. Available to residents of Norwood and Westwood (and surrounding areas).
Heating and Energy
Below is a list of resources that help homeowners and renters with affordable heating and energy solutions through the winter months.
Landlords must ensure heating systems can maintain at least 68 degrees during the day and 64 degrees at night from Sept 15 to June 15.
Apply for home heating and energy assistance
The Massachusetts’ home energy assistance program (HEAP) is a free resource to help eligible households pay a portion of winter heating bills.
Please call the Council on Aging Outreach worker at 781- 762-1201 to schedule an appointment.
The Norwood Self Help program offers qualified Norwood residents financial assistance with home heating costs. Electric, gas, and oil heating systems are included in this program, which runs from November 1 to April 30 annually.
The Energy Programs of Self Help, Inc. are designed to provide relief to households most vulnerable to high home heating costs. The Home Energy Assistance Program helps families and individuals pay for and lower the cost of heating their home in winter, even if you rent.

Mass Save offers a variety of incentives, services, and support to help homeowners and renters.
In addition to rebates and incentives, residents can also take advantage of income-based assistance and federal tax credits to further lower the price of energy-efficient upgrades.
